About Ben.

Benjamin P. Geisler, M.D., M.P.H., F.A.C.P., M.R.C.P. (London), F.H.M. is a board-certified internist who practices hospital medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital and is on the faculty at Harvard Medical School. He is an international medical graduate from Germany (Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin) and completed a categorical internal medicine residency at NYU School of Medicine in New York City, NY. Prior to clinical training, he was a Post-doctoral Research Fellow in Decision Science at Massachusetts General Hospital and also completed a Master's degree in Public Health at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health.

As a general medicine doctor, Ben embraces coordinating clinical care for his patients between inpatient and outpatient settings and among treating subspecialists. He individualizes evidence-based practices, takes patients' preferences into account, practices shared medical decision making, and aims to increase the efficiency or value of health care services to provide highly patient- and family-centered care.

In addition to his clinical work, he is a health services researcher, decision-analytic modeler, and health economist. For over a decade, from 2009 to 2020, Ben served as a senior consultant for Wing Tech Inc. Following his tenure at Wing Tech, he worked as a guest researcher in a clinical A.I. lab at Ludwig-Maximillian University in Munich, Germany. He then transitioned to roles as a researcher at University Hospital Augsburg, Germany, and the University of Oslo, Norway. In Oslo, he was part of the PharmaSafe research group, focusing on perinatal epidemiology and causal inference techniques. Currently, Ben is a Doctoral Research Fellow in the Department of Health Management and Health Economics at the University of Oslo.

To date, he has co-authored 50 peer-reviewed research papers and 75 abstracts and pre-prints. Ben has served as a co-editor of the peer-reviewed journals Value in Health and PLOS Medicine for over eight years and is currently an Associate Editor with PLOS Digital Medicine and on the editorial board of Pharmacoeconomics. His research has had applications across various medical conditions, with a primary focus on cardiovascular disease. He enjoys teaching and running quality improvement/patient safety (QI/PS) projects. Additionally, Ben has served as a medical expert in malpractice trials.


His ultimate career goal is to serve as a bridge between health policy/management and clinical medicine. Ben aspires to leverage his diverse background and expertise to facilitate effective communication and collaboration between policymakers, healthcare leaders, and clinicians. By doing so, he aims to contribute to the development and implementation of evidence-based tools and practices that improve patient outcomes, enhance healthcare efficiency and promote health equity. He is passionate about translating research findings into actionable insights that can inform decision-making at both the policy and clinical levels to drive positive change.
