Physician, international public health expert
Hailu brings a wealth of experience in public health, focusing on health systems design, global health, health economics, and digital health innovation.
Before his current role at the Co-Lab and as an Instructor at Harvard, Hailu served as Senior Advisor in the Ministry of Health-Ethiopia, Medical Director at ALERT Center and Specialty Services Advisor at Ethiopia's Ministry of Health. In these positions, he led national initiatives in specialty services, health service transformation, digital health, and COVID-19 case management. Additionally, Hailu worked with organizations like Commonwealth Care Alliance and Market Access Africa, where he has provided strategic guidance on health system strengthening projects and economic evaluations.
Hailu is dedicated to education and mentorship, having taught multiple courses at Harvard and served as Instructor. He has also been involved in significant conference roles, including co-founding the African Health Conference at Harvard. Hailu holds a Doctor of Public Health from the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, a Master of Philosophy in Global Health from the University of Bergen, and a Doctor of Medicine from Jimma University.
With strong ties to and background in Sub-Saharan Africa, he continues to contribute to the field of global health through his research, practice, and consulting engagements.
